Pineapple Smoothies

Pineapple smoothies can be made with fresh Pineapple, Pineapple juice or simply Pineapple from a can, which could be small chunks or rings. Fresh Pineapple sometimes requires extra sweeteners, but juice and the canned variety probably will not. Pineapple juice can also be a little acidic sometimes.

I really like to add fresh mint and nutmeg and the addition of coconut flakes is a real treat. Adding Papaya and a touch of Honey sounds really good…I have to go try that one right now…!

Pineapple Smoothies and Health

The Pineapple is considered a tropical fruit and, obviously, needs to be grown in a tropical climate. They come with a rough, diamond pattern skin that must be removed.

They have natural substances that are supposed to promote healing, relieve indigestion and promote bone growth. I was once told that you could almost live exclusively on Pineapple (…if you really had to, that is!)…the nearest thing to a complete food.

Two slices of Pineapple have about 50 calories and no fat, cholesterol or sodium. It would be high in Potassium and Vitamin C and also contain some Vitamin A, Calcium and Iron.
