Chocolate Smoothies

Chocolate Smoothies are quite a new idea for me. I never really considered chocolate to be a smoothie ingredient but was I ever wrong! I am not so sure about the healthy part, although the fruit involved makes up a little for the extra fat and sugar content of the chocolate.

You have a choice of course of real chocolate or chocolate syrup, or even chocolate pudding mix. Then there is white, brown or dark chocolate…I have to try these variations!

And there are benefits: “A benefit of dark chocolate is that due to its concentration of flavonoids it can can help in the battle against diabetes as it is rich in antioxidants.

Cocoa powder is rich in flavonoids which in turn is rich in antioxidants and as such helps to counteract insulin resistance. Another amazing benefit of dark chocolate is that it is a terrific source of epicatechin.

This compound is naturally occurring in cocoa powder that is used in commercially made chocolate, although it has a bitter taste.”

Notice the words “Dark Chocolate” and “Cocoa Powder”. Food for thought and discussion!

Cherry Smoothies

CHOCOLATE SYRUP SMOOTHIE

1 frozen banana — peeled
6 oz. light (reduced sugar) fat-free cherry, frozen yogurt
2 T. Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup
1/2 cup non-fat milk
Put all ingredients into blender.
Blend until smoothie consistency is reached.
Serves 1.

CHOCOLATE BANANA SMOOTHIE

6 oz. ‘SnackWells’ Chocolate Cherry Non-Fat Yogurt
1/4 cup skim milk
1 banana
3 large ice cubes
Put all ingredients into blender.
Blend well, adding more ice or milk if necessary, until smoothie
consistency is reached.
Enjoy!

CHOCOLATE KITTY SMOOTHIE

1/2 bar of Hershey’s milk chocolate bar.
2 scoops chocolate ice cream.
1/2 cup milk
ice cubes.
In a blender, puree chocolate bar.
Add ice cream, milk and ice cubes.
Blend until smooth.
Serves 2.

CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER BANANA SMOOTHIE

1 banana.
2 Tbs. Peanut Butter (chunky or smooth… whatever you prefer!)
1-2 squirts of Hershey’s reduced calorie chocolate syrup.
1 Tbs. wheat germ.
6 oz. soy milk.
Put all ingredients into blender.
Blend until smoothie consistency is reached.
Enjoy your Smoothie.
